Here is a brief bio on Brandon:
Brandon Myers is a current active duty United States Navy SEAL who suffered a debilitating injury during training. After falling nearly 25 feet, he broke T9 in is lumbar spine and is currently left with no feeling from the waist down. The doctor's prognosis is that he will never regain motor functions or feeling below the belly button. Most people would accept this prognosis, but not Brandon... he is a fighter and is determined to get back on his feet again. Brandon is a native of Elizabeth, and a 2007 graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School, where he was a stand out athlete and scholar. Brandon graduated with high honors from EF and was a member of the Varsity Football and Varsity Baseball teams for the Warriors. After graduation, Brandon moved on to college at Penn State Greater Allegheny and then Waynesburg College. At PSUGA, Brandon majored in Criminal Justice and was a leader on the Baseball team. He later transferred to Waynesburg where he was a star on both the Yellow Jackets' Varsity Football and Varsity Baseball teams. In 2012, Brandon graduated from WU, magna cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. Upon commencement, Brandon focused all of his attention on training and preparing himself for the United States Navy SEALS. He enlisted in the Navy in 2013, and went on to officer school in Newport, Rhode Island where he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy. Immediately following, he was stationed in Coronado, California for BUD/s, SQT, and SERE training to become one of the elite members of the SEAL teams. On July 31st of this year, Brandon's dreams came true as he was pinned with his trident as a Junior Officer and Navy SEAL. Just 3 weeks later, this tragic incident occurred. Brandon's ambitions still remain the same; to defend our country as a SEAL. Brandon's determination, work ethic, and leadership go unmatched. He is truly one of a kind and if anyone can defy odds, it is him. Not once throughout the past 8 months has he felt sorry for himself or for the situation that was handed to him. He is ready to fight, and feels confidently that he will beat this and walk again.
In the meantime, a movement has been started in his honor... #UseYourLegs is a challenge for people everywhere to get up and "Use Your Legs" for those who cannot. Whether it be to run a block, a mile, 10 miles, or even a marathon… please do something every single day for him until he can run again right along with us.
